What is your opinion of medication vs. counseling?

I figure since I have the column, "On the couch with Dr. Kelsch" in Montana Parent, this is our opportunity to talk off the couch.

What are your wondering about? What is your opinion of medication vs. counseling? I think we need both. BUT, I am certainly biased toward counseling first. If it is not as successful as desired go ahead and add the correct medication and continue counseling. Medication without counseling DOES NOT WORK!!!! I am very concerned about the medication that is being dispensed. A dear psychologist friend of mine was given psychotic drugs after a concussion and then had to go to drug rehabilitation due to the negligent over prescribing of the physician.
